Lower School Admissions

Hillsdale Academy offers an academically enriched alternative to students in Hillsdale County and the surrounding area. Students are admitted to the Academy based on the combined strengths of their application and interview, inasmuch as these show evidence of personal motivation. No intelligence or other achievement tests are required for admission.

Parents of children ready for Kindergarten (age 5 by September 1) submit an application by February 15th.  Applications are available in the Academy's front office, or can be downloaded.  Interviews are conducted in early March, with placement priority given to families with siblings already attending the Academy and to the children of Hillsdale College employees.  Parents whose children are offered an opening in the Kindergarten class reserve the opening with a $200 deposit.

Reenrollment for current students takes place the beginning of February. This process requires completing an online reenrollment packet as well as submitting a $200 deposit per student.

Application materials are then made available at the Academy’s front office to parents who seek admission of students new to Grades 1 through 8. When openings are available, interviews with these families are conducted, after which notification of each new candidate’s status is made. Families for whom there is an opening also submit the $200 deposit. All deposits are non-refundable and are applied to tuition.

Tuition and Fees

For the 2019-2020 academic year, tuition for the half day of Kindergarten is $4,360. Tuition for Grades 1 through 8 is $6,660. A separate application fee of $25 covers the administrative costs of processing applications and maintaining the waitlist.

Tuition payment plans are available. Tuition scholarship assistance is extended on a limited basis. Scholarship application forms are available in the Academy's front office by February 1st and are due by March 1st. Scholarship recipients are notified in the spring.

Parents who voluntarily withdraw their child from Hillsdale Academy are responsible for the balance of the tuition for the current trimester. Prorated refunds are issued for students excused by Hillsdale Academy.

Parents are advised before the opening of each academic year regarding school uniform requirements and where such purchases can be made.
